Overview
Juggler has been designed for organizations that have a need for
specialist services in managing the electronic documents within
their Local Area Network or Intranet. Juggler provides a range of
services to manage documents created by your enterprise servers
or, from desktop users. These services are provided from a central
hub and include:
- Web based accessibility whether it is Web or LAN based.
- Archiving and Retrieval of documents.
- Automated document distribution.
Deployment and access is either via the Juggler application, or,
on the server-based deployment a Web browser Interface is available.
Web based accessibility
The Juggler service hub can provide services within a LAN, Intranet
and Extranet environments. So long as a Windows and or TCP/IP network
facilities are available, then Juggler can provide services from
the Hub.
Archiving and retrieval
The archive and retrieval functions are ideal for handling the
routine task of archiving documents from your enterprise servers
or from fileservers used by desktop users. The key functions include:
Automated archiving of documents based on predefined parameters
to CD archives.
Keeping an on-line database of all archived documents and what
CD archive they have been archived to.
- Allowing browsing and retrieval of all documents from current
and previous CDs.
- Automated archiving from anywhere on the network to the Juggler
archive.
- Taking extra copies of archive CDs for backup/security purposes.
Specific functions for archiving:
- Selected servers/directories are monitored and files matching
specified criteria are archived automatically.
- Integrated exception monitoring and tracking allows network
administrators to be notified by email in real time.
- Date and time options for archive processing.
- Supports multiple versions of the same document.
- Retains the server and directory structures within the archive
as used on the original servers.
Automated document distribution
With the same selection and monitoring as the archiving functions,
documents can be distributed via email. This is an ideal solution
for distributing reports that would normally be printed from an
enterprise server and delivered to an end user.
- Files that are selected can also be emailed to predefined destinations.
- Use the web access to request archive documents to download
via email or directly to the desktop.
Solving the business problem
Juggler provides services to meet specific business needs. Outlined
below are some of these business issues that Juggler enables you
to resolve.
Accounting system reports that are for audit purposes. Many accounting
systems produce large quantities of audit reports that are printed
and filed. With Juggler these reports can automatically be archived
and then retrieved needed. The first Juggler user established that
the saving in paper would pay for Juggler within eight months.
Information systems create reports that have very limited usefulness,
and in fact users may only look at reports once to check for exceptions
or trends, and then they are discarded. Juggler enables these reports
to be delivered to the desktop (via email) so users can view, print
or save the report locally.
Desktop users using a central file server, may have difficulty
archiving old documents in a structured and consistent manner. Juggler
enables this and provides a single point from which to retrieve
any document that has been archived (no need to remember which ZIP
disk or CD you archived documents to).
Juggler Technology
Juggler is built using a JADE development environment. JADE is
a single technology, with a single language that follows a single
model - object-orientation. JADE removes the complexity of managing
multiple technologies with the result producing more robust and
reliable applications.
Network Support
Documents are archived by either:
- Directly copying a file to the application server from another
Windows machine on the LAN.
Both the server & client machines require the TCP/IP communications
protocol.
- Using FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
This requires a 32-bit Winsock connection from the application
server to the remote server. The remote server is also required
to be on the LAN as dial-up connections are not currently supported.
System Requirements
Juggler is a JADE application that requires the user have installed
a runtime version of . The minimum hardware specification recommended
for Stand-alone/Single User Juggler applications is:
- 200 MHz Pentium 2.
- 32 MB of RAM for Windows 95 or Windows 98.
- 64 MB of RAM for Windows NT.
- 60 MB disk space for JADE product.
- 1 GB disk space for Juggler archiving.
The following server configuration for Juggler is required:
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.
- Windows NT service pack 3 or greater.
- Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 2.0 (required for
intranet web application).
- TCP/IP communications protocol.
- 32-bit Winsock connection.
- 1 GB disk space for Juggler archiving.
Additional Hardware and software required:
- CD Writer.
- Adaptec DirectCD software, or similar that will allow files
to be copied directly to a writable CD.
