BAKING UP A STORM IN NEW YORK
Number One seller Uncle Wally's is now using a JADE-built system.
When was the last time you went to the local bakery to buy bread,
muffins or doughnuts? Easy wasn't it? All you had to do was make
your selection. Cream filled doughnut with raspberry jam or a slice
of Mississippi mud cake? Then you handed over the money and left.
As consumers we don't tend to think about what goes on behind
the scenes. We know that the baker has to get up in the early hours
of the morning to prepare and bake the goods. We know about all
the ingredients used to make them. But what we don't think about
is the information technology the bakery needs in order to make
these goods available to us.
The industry of baked goods is highly competitive. Producing and
selling these low-cost consumer items means bakeries work on high
volumes and low margins, so they need an IT system that can help
them maximize their business.
SSi (Systems, Software Instrumentation Ltd) have been helping
bakeries in the South Pacific achieve this for over a decade, and
now they are helping New York based Uncle Wally's deliver our favorite
fat free muffins to people all around the United States.
Uncle Wally's is based in Shirley, New York, where they make their
famous gourmet and fat-free muffins and snack cakes. Most major
retailers in the New York tri-state area sell their products and
they also have national distribution.
Michael Petrucelli, Chief Financial Office for Uncle Wally's,
said "We just implemented the GlobalBake system as a key tool
to better run production. Everyone using the system appreciates
the new capabilities it will afford us. John Baird and his team
did an excellent job for our company".
John Baird, Chief Executive Officer for SSi said, "The Uncle
Wally's system required a multi-plant, multi-production line management
system. They had in place very good management strategies and became
a development partner with SSi. This meant they benefited by providing
their expertise into the extension of the software to meet their
requirements".
The GlobalBake Solution
GlobalBake was designed in conjunction with the bakery community.
It delivers a generic integrated package for the baking industry
while also providing the functionality and flexibility to cater
for different operational approaches.
So why did SSi choose JADE to build their system?
According to the developers, one of JADE's strengths is how it
enables them to achieve complex solutions. The database component
of GlobalBake is robust and scaleable. Using the same system,
one client can process 100 orders in an afternoon, while another
client may process 5000, with no impact on performance and speed
of entry. This makes the GlobalBake solution a suitable
application for a single PC right through to very large multi-user
system.
Given the 24x7 nature of the baking industry, the reliability
of SSi GlobalBake is a key issue, and another reason why JADE was
chosen as the technology. In fact, SSi have such confidence in JADE
that they provide clients with 24 hour, 365-day support for the
GlobalBake system.
SSi now has over 100 sites using GlobalBake throughout Australia, New Zealand, Dubai and the United States.
So next time you walk into a bakery and buy that piece of cake,
remember that a JADE system could very well have been working away
in the background helping to make your purchase possible.
